don’t leave your self assessment tax return to the last minute…

This is the advice being given by HMRC ahead of the looming Christmas shut down!  First-time Self Assessment filers are being urged to register now to avoid missing the 31st January deadline.

Registration can take up to seven working days to complete, as the final step involves HMRC sending you an activation code in the post.  Therefore it is vital that you don’t leave this to the last minute.

To register simply visit the HMRC website and follow the on-screen instructions or contact A4C and we can take the hassle away for you (including the preparation and submission of your tax return for just £150 +VAT).

Remember that if you are a parent who received an income over £50,000 in 2012/13 and claimed Child Benefit payments from 7th January 2013 then you will have to pay a tax charge based on your income.  If this applies you must complete a self assessment tax return, even if you are in full time employment with no other source of income.

The 31st January is the deadline for filing your return as well as paying any tax owed, however if you owe less than £3,000 you can opt to pay your tax bill through next year’s tax code.  To qualify for this you must submit your tax return by midnight on 30th December 2013!

We appreciate there are many dates and rules to know but for more information you can call the HMRC Self Assessment Helpline on 0300 200 3310 (open 8am to 8pm) or call the team at A4C for an informal and no obligation chat on 01737 652 852.
